A Better Transport Charter for the Whole Community
The time has come for transport workers and commuters to join together and put some pressure on the major parties.
But if we want our politicians to deliver a better transport system, then we need to make it clear what a better transport system would look like.
That’s why we have developed a draft Better Transport Charter, and why we are now seeking input and feedback from the community.”
The five goals of the draft Better Transport Charter are:
- Invest in high-quality transport services;
- Look after our transport assets;
- Plan for the future;
- Provide a transport system for the common good; and
- Respect the people who provide the services.
This draft is a starting point – now we need to hear what commuters want their politicians to deliver.
I urge all commuters to get on-line and leave a comment about the draft Charter. Once commuters have had their say, we will be able to release final Charter that reflects the needs of the whole community.
The final Charter would set the agenda for transport policy, and would put pressure on all major parties to invest in better services.
All major parties will then have to explain to the community how they will deliver the transport goals that we have set for them.”
You can access the complete draft of the Charter and leave your comment by clicking on the Better Transport Charter button on the top right hand side of this page.
The draft Charter will be open for community feedback until 12 November 2010.
