We expect that politicians in the NSW Parliament will vote very soon on the O’Farrell’s legislation to cut the pay and conditions of public sector workers.
If enacted, this legislation will:
• Cut services to the community
• Cut pay and conditions of public sector workers
• Undermine the ability of unions to represent their members
• End the independent role of the NSW Industrial Commission
Legal advice given to the NSW Police Association questions the legality of the proposed legislation.
What is clear is that if enacted the laws will give NSW public sector the weakest industrial rights of any worker in Australia. These laws represent the biggest change in the NSW system in 100 years.
